Amici News

The Amici singers restarted on September 10th 2009 and welcomed five new members.

We have had another very successful season from September 2008 to Summer 2009 with a number of very enjoyable concerts for singers and audiences alike.

We had two Christmas concerts, one being at Cookridge Village Hall and the second at Adel Methodist Church. The latter is where we rehearse and are made very welcome with good facilities and some storage for our music, so we were very happy to help them raise money towards the upkeep of the church and its hall.

In the Spring we put away our Christmas music for another year and embarked on learning a new repertoire. As always our music is a mixture of sacred anthems, Negro spirituals, folk songs and some in lighter vein. In the Spring and Sumer of 2009 we had three concerts and for the first one joined a very talented young violinist, David Tan, in a concert at St George's church in Leeds. David, a student at Newcastle University, played a number of solos and we sang part of our full concert programme. This concert was to help to raise money for the crypt in that church which provides shelter for homeless people.

In July we sang at Holy Trinity church in Cookridge and finished our season with a concert in Weeton church.
